Our Program

Little Steps is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing comprehensive services to teen and young parents. We offer an environment of encouragement and accountability to help young mothers and fathers become more confident, self-sufficient parents. We accomplish this through three unique components:

Evidence-Based Nurturing Parenting Classes
Nurturing Parenting Programs are a family-centered trauma-informed initiative designed to build nurturing parenting skills as an alternative to abusive and neglecting parenting and child-rearing practices.

Case Management Utilizing the Evidence-Based Triple P (Positive Parenting Program) Model
Triple P is one of the most effective evidence-based parenting programs in the world. It gives parents simple and practical strategies to help them build strong, healthy relationships, and confidently manage their children’s behavior.

Parent-Child Enrichment Activities Aligning with the Evidence-Based Palmetto Basics
The Basics are five evidence-based parenting and caregiving principles that encompass much of what experts find is important for children from birth to age three, when 80% of brain growth happens.

Parents are encouraged to participate in all components for maximum benefit. Our program operates on an Earn While You Learn system. This system is rooted in Maslow’s “Hierarchy of Needs” which states that all of an individual’s immediate needs must be met before an individual can learn to his or her full potential. Parents earn Baby Bucks for class participation and in recognition of goal attainment which can be redeemed for items such as diapers, baby equipment, and other necessities. Once initial needs are met, participants can completely focus on their next best steps.

Our programming is designed to provide the resources and positive support to foster nurturing environments and strengthen each participant’s ability to more independently provide for themselves and their children.
