In order to meet this goal, we offer classes to pregnant and parenting teens in the Greenville County area. In these classes participants learn crucial information concerning Pregnancy, Parenting, and Everyday Life Skills. We also offer one-on-one mentoring to these pregnant and parenting teens. Peer groups are available for them to get to know other pregnant and parenting teens while encouraging them to build relationships within a structure that promotes encouragement and accountability among their peers. All three program components provide the participants the opportunity to earn Baby Bucks that can be used to purchase items needed for themselves and their babies in our Baby Boutique.
To reduce repeat teen pregnancies, we partner with AID Upstate to educate teen parents on pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases. An AID Upstate representative will present pregnancy and STD information, as well as proper contraceptive use. These presentations are included in our programming throughout the year.
We utilize previous and current program members as speakers for group presentations to students at local schools and community youth groups. We work with the leaders within each group to create programs suitable for each environment to increase awareness among their students about the realities of teen pregnancy.
We partner with local churches and community civic groups to present information about teen pregnancy in our area and the programs being offered by Little Steps. We share information about local teen pregnancy data, the impact being made for generations to come through the involvement of Little Steps with this part of our local population, as well as opportunities for them to join us in making a difference in the lives of these young families.
We educate teen parents on the importance of completing their high school education and how this directly relates to their ability to provide for their children. We offer one-on-one mentors and guidance to all program members concerning their personal plans for graduation. Because child care is one of the greatest obstacles for teen parents in completing high school, we educate program members on the child care options that are currently available to them. We are also working with our local community to increase the availability of child care to enable these teen parents to complete their educations.
